 Marcelo Ferreira is a comic artist from Brazil who has been working in the industry for over 10 years. He is currently penciling Marvel's flagship title Amazing Spider-Man, and prior to that his most recent work includes Morbius, Absolute Carnage vs Deadpool, Spider-Force, and Punisher: War of the Realms (Marvel). Prior to working for Marvel Comics, Marcelo's previous credits include Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Dark Horse); and Back to the Future, Micronauts, and Transformers (IDW Publishing), among others.
Outside of comics, Marcelo’s work can be found in sketchcards and in various storybooks and advertising/editorial illustration. He also runs an art studio, where he collaborates with other artists to create cool comics and illustrations.

How long have you been working in the industry?
I’ve been working in the industry since 2011.
When did you first become interested in art?
Art has been around me since a very early age. I was the type of kid that looked forward to the art classes at school!
When did you first become interested in comics?
Since age 6, when I learned to read. At first it was kids’ comics, such as Disney comics. At age 8 I discovered Marvel and DC.
What made you choose this line of work?
Passion! When I discovered Marvel and DC I also decided I wanted to draw comics for a living. That was all I drew all day long, that was all I read every day: superhero comics.
Which work are you most proud of?
I think MORBIUS (Marvel, 2019) and my current run on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
What are you working on now?
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ongoing, and a SPIDER-MAN one-shot, linked to the DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE event.
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
It has to be John Byrne and his amazing run on SUPERMAN in the 1980s, Jim Lee and his 1990s stuff, and also Jim Aparo and all he did in BATMAN back in the day.
What does a typical day look like for you?
In the morning I grab my cup of coffee and go into my home studio at around 8:30. Then I work until lunch around 11. After kids are off to school I take the afternoon shift from noon to 6 PM. If need be, I take a night shift of work. Repeat everything the next day. :-)
Might sound repetitive, but this routine is actually necessary and the fun is in every singular page we have to draw each day!
What is your current approach to artwork (preferred media, etc)?
I do traditional pencils and inks.
Do you incorporate digital elements in your work? If so – how?
Yes! When inking – I use my iPad to do retouches and details or special textures in a kind of post-production to my inks. Sometimes I might use a digital approach to the pre-production storyboard done for each comic.
What was your first “big break” in comics?
Being from outside the US and self-managed, I consider my first break to be a big break! It is supposedly harder for us from outside the country, takes a harder effort due to the obvious reasons. But what we normally consider a “big break,” I’d say when I signed with Marvel back in 2018.
A lot of our follower base are collectors – do you collect anything?
Yes! Transformers action figures! Big passion back from my childhood.
What are some of your hobbies?
Reading and house renovation. :-)
