Matt's book Dept. H has recently been optioned by Netflix for a feature film adaptation directed by Alice Waddington. To celebrate, we will be giving away two copies of the full color variant cover of Dept H #1 (Dark Horse Comics) exclusively available through Blindbox Comics. Only 800 copies of this cover were printed, and fewer than 400 copies still exist as at least half the print run went to recycling once Blindbox discontinued their subscription service in 2018. Q&A
How long have you been working in the industry?
20 years.
When did you first become interested in art?
As long as I can remember. My parents used to take me to the art museum and we’d take sketchbooks and pencils and kneaded erasers and sit in the museum and draw sculptures and paintings. My mom was in school so I think she was taking a drawing class and took us along on her assignments.
When did you first become interested in comics?
Right after Electra died in Daredevil. The end of Frank Miller’s run. Started reading then and worked my way backward to figure out what happened to her – and then been reading ever since.

Only profession where you can write and draw – and have total control of the final piece.

What are you working on now?
A new series with Tyler Jenkins and a spy book that I’m writing and drawing. Spy Superb.
Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
Jack Kirby, Edward Hopper, Phlip K. Dick, and Jack Kerouac.

Water color and mixing in some oil painting lately.
